Wine Wrapping Woes? Gnome Worries!

Shall we continue our Fairy Merry Christmas?

Well.  The gift giving season is upon us and nothing is easier to gift than a bottle of vino.  Until recently, wrapping a bottle of wine lacked creativity let alone surprise.

I did use a wine bag once to gift a purse. Rolled it up and stuffed it in. THAT was a surprise!

So since disguising a wine or liquor bottle is a task, why not make the wrapping fun and cute!

We only need a few things and minutes for this one.  I love 30 minute crafts…

Supplies

• Felt – for the hat
• Craft fur – for the beard
• Wood Bead – for the nose
• Glue – I used a hot glue gun.  I’m impatient when it comes to crafting.
• Craft knife – I love my ek tools retractable knife

Let’s start with making the beard.  Your steps may vary depending on how big the sheet of craft fur you purchase is.  Mine is from Joann’s.  Each of my beards (once cut) measured about 5 inches wide and 6 inches long.  It’s up to you!

1. Remove the fur packaging and unfold.
2. Use your craft knife to gently cut the piece in half from the back of the fur piece (non-fur side).  I can’t stress this enough.  Scissors are bad, craft knife is good.  Press just hard enough to cut through the backing avoiding cutting the hair.  A repetitive scratching of the backing worked well for me.
3. Sketch out your beards.
4. Cut the piece in half so you can make 2 beards.
5. Use your craft knife to cut out your beard.
6. There isn’t really a step 6… I just added a picture of it partially cut with my craft knife to prove I used it.  Go ahead and try scissors… see how messy it gets. ;)
7. Admire your cute little beard.  BONUS: you have some side burns to use later for something.  Let me know if you find a use for them…

Ok, the hat.  Roll the felt so it makes a cone.  Repeat as many times as you need until you get the perfect cone.  May take several tries, loud shouts cursing your need for perfection and tantrum or two.

Or I’m sure you can find some sort of template on Pinterest.  I like to wing things.  And swear.

Once I was happy with my roll, I cut the felt straight across right around the 8 inch mark on my craft mat (if you can see the numbers).

I held the felt in place with some clips while I glued the edges down.  Like my Thanksgiving Turkeys, there are no gluing shots or videos because I was too busy burning myself and being PG13 and then some with my language.

Now to put it all together!

Decide what will be the front of the hat and put that part face down on the craft mat.  Add glue to the inside of the hat (squiggle line in top image).

Press your beard onto the glue, fur side down.

Flip the hat so the fur and front of hat are facing up.  Add a dab of glue to your nose bead and stick on hat where you would like.

Ta-da! Gnome hat!

Just place on the bottle of wine you’re gifting and it’s perfectly wrapped!  Or make a half dozen and plop on top of things around the house for instant gnomification.

Either way, you pretty much just won Christmas.
