Strive for progress, not perfection.

Life presents us with challenges and obstacles to overcome.  It doesn’t matter who you are, you will be tested, you will have to work at something.  How you handle life’s little complications will not only define the situation but also your character.

Now, not all challenges and obstacles are down right rotten, horrible, things that shall not be named.  They can be as simple as taking off 10 pounds or de-cluttering your life.  Both of which are crappy life things that at some point we need to do and find ourselves grumbling about.

Ha! I said “simple”.  Like taking off the last 10 pounds and throwing things out is easy ;)

It’s important when tackling challenges and pushing past obstacles that perfection isn’t, and shouldn’t be, the way you measure your success.  Progress is what let’s us know our efforts are working.

This happy little reminder was written on a board at a workout place I used to frequent.  I don’t know if the owners realized it or not, but it was in a perfect place, right between the coat room and workout room.  You saw it before you began and after you just attempted to give your all.

I know it gave me enough motivation to push me to work a little harder; sink a little deeper in my stretch, lift my leg a little higher, get one more crunch in.  And on the way out, it helped me confidently say, yes, I did do better today.  I’m not perfect but I’m making progress.

    1. Thanks Lexy! I find that I always need these posts the Monday they’re posted. I plan weeks in advance but they always happen to fall in line perfectly with life when they publish.

    1. I’m always working on this. Yesterdays aha: I got through my workout without dying as much as I did the first time I did it. I still looked like a fool doing it, but I did it better.

  1. January 2nd I decided it was time to make some serious health changes in my life. I did a total detox of my body of all bad food and alcohol and I started working out A LOT. I fell off the wagon around my bday at the end of March and then we went on vacation and then last week I had no excuse other than I just felt lazy. But this week I’m back in the game and hoping to lose the rest of this unwanted weight by summer. Great post. #mg

    1. It’s something I’m learning. Growing up I always seemed to be perfect at everything I did. Now, as an adult, things don’t come as easily/naturally. But all I can ask for is progress =)

  3. Very good post and very well recieved. Wonderful to be reminded of this, in this world. We try hard not to use the “P” word in our house. As a former perfectionist, I find it so important to not have our children feel the pressure of this in any way shape or form.
